Needless to say, the Hazelnut Sponge cake with buttercream icing and chocolate shavings was a staple at all family celebrations--birthdays, christenings. I ordered a wedding cake for both of my sisters' weddings....I stop in whenever I am in the city and gladly pay for the parking to run in and stock up on your delicious pastries.I also enjoyed the 'washboard' cookies, but you don't seem to have them anymore.Thank you and Donna for keeping a Philadelphia tradition alive!!

Jim & Donna Just a short note to thank you folks for saving one of the finest traditions in Philly. For many years I had always made the Swiss Pastry Shop my last stop while in town. I was deployed overseas when it closed the doors – a devastating thought… I hadn’t known that you re-opened Swiss Haus until I was at a party and the napoleans looked very familiar…and when I tried one, oh-my-god…took me back. The rest of the desserts were superb as well – what first rate pastries. After browsing the website I see you have gone above & beyond what the swiss pastry shop had accomplished – bravo! I shall be stopping in regularly from now on (I’ll be the one drooling) to sample everything I can. Keep up the good work!!

My mom would buy these cakes for my sister's birthdays and mine. We grew up on this stuff and it is delicious! I introduced my wife to these cakes and she fell in love with them. Thank you for saving the bakery and the tradition!

I buy the hazelnut sponge cake for my husband's birthday every year. He loves this cake!

As a child, all of my birthday cakes were hazelnut cakes from the Swiss Pastry Shop in Atlantic City. In high school, my friends met there every morning before school for the best cakes and pastries in the world. When they closed, I thought I would never again experience that wonderful cake. About 10 years ago I was told about the shop in Philly. I made a special trip to see if it was, in fact, the same cake. I have since made several trips just for the hazelnut cakes - among other treats. What ever the price needs to go to, Swiss Pastry is so worth it. I've been a devoted fan for 60 years and now my husband, daughter, son-in-law and granddaughters are also.

I love this place. Just went for the first time a couple of months ago and have been back multiple times since. There seem to be quite a few types of pastry in their cases that I haven't seen in other bakeries, and I love to try new things. Love the frangipane - which I think was butter crust on the bottom, layer of raspberry, layer of almond cake, and pear and peaches on top. Not sure exactly - but it was great and I am sad it took me this long to discover. Also amazing - the clitchy, which was some sort of chocolate coffee 7 layer pastry. It's a cute little shop, with seating if you want to have a cup of coffee and a pastry. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. They also have beautiful cakes, which I haven't tried yet but definitely will next time I throw a party. Pastry prices are very reasonable - between 2 and 5 bucks each, with the more expensive ones being large (in my opinion) and good for sharing with a friend or two. Not sure about the cake prices. This is my new favorite bakery in Philly.

Your hazelnut cake has been my favorite for over thirty years. I know that because my oldest son is thirty, and every time I left my obstetrician's office(which was across from your bakery)I went directly over to get a hazelnut cake. Funny thing is, the woman who is my best friend now, who I didn't know at the time, went to the same doctor and had the same ritual. Today my husband is getting the same cake for my daughter-in-law's birthday. It is also her favorite cake. Thank you for many years of enjoyment.

The hazelnut sponge cake is to die for. The butter cream icing--like no other. Each and every cookie is baked to perfection...the flavor combinations are incredible! No place in the tri-state area can compare.

I've had the opportunity to enjoy many of the shop's cookies and a few of the cakes/specialties. This place undoubtedly has the best baked goods in the area with a large assortment, welcoming feel and helpful staff. Check it out!

Delicious cake and pastry: Real, delicious, beautiful. Three words that start to describe the delicious treats that this shop makes, treats head and shoulders above the usual local bakeries, or cafes who buy pseudo desserts from huge corporate kitchens. If you want torts or cakes that are delicious and not disgustingly sweet like many others are this is your place! Its worth a trip from KOP or Cherry Hill for these wonderful desserts!

We just had the privilege to taste your son's eclair and napoleon from his bakery----- orgasmic, outrageous or plain fabulous does not even begin to describe how good it was.

The Swiss bakery is very close to my office and we always order our cakes from the Swiss bakery for office parties and celebrations. The cakes are very light and they are so good. They have many different flavor combinations to choose from. They also make amazing cookie and pastry trays.

The Swiss Haus Bakery on 19th Street is one of my personal favorites. The baked goods sold here are exceptionally yummy, and everything is very fresh. I like the cakes here, as they are actually baked on site. This place smells so nice when you come early in the morning. The staff are pleasant; they always greet you and wish you a nice day as you leave. I like how this bakery is clean, too. I would come here more often if I lived closer.

It took me a while to find a good bakery that sells European style pastries. I grew up in Europe and have different expectations than most people here when I purchase pastry or birthday cake. Swiss pastry has never disappointed me in taste and the people working in the bakery are very knowledgeable of their products.

You did a fantastic job on our specialty cake. Thanks for all your hard work. Philly could not survive without your bakery!

Dear Mr. Hausman, I'm very pleased that you [opened] Swiss Haus and are keeping this popular bakery open. I have one suggestion. It would be great if you could obtain the recipe for Rindelaub's German Chocolate Cake. This was Rindelaub's specialty and it now appears to be gone and is a great loss for many of us who loved this cake. The new Swiss Haus should add this favorite dessert to its many offerings. In any case, good luck with the new bakery and I expect to be a regular customer. Yours Truly, Elkan

Hi Jim, I read the article last month in the inquirer regarding your [opening] of the bakery. I just wanted to let you know how thrilled I am about it. Like you, my birthday cakes (hazelnut, of course) have always come from the Swiss Pastry Shop, for more years than I am willing to admit ;) I grew up in a Philly Suburb but no matter where I relocated, I never gave up the cakes. I would not have heard about the closing except for the article and would have been totally depressed when my birthday rolled around in May, had you not made the decision that you did. So, I personally wanted to thank you. All the best, Linda
